Here are the finished filigree pieces I've been working on for the past week or so!
Filigree Earrings
Sterling silver, onyx. 2.5 inches (6.3 cm) tall. Not for sale.
Project #1 in the "Silver Threads" book. These are purportedly based on Norwegian style filigree. I added onyx beads instead of the pearls the author used, or the traditional gold dangles. They are big, and amazingly light in weight!
Silver Filigree Star
Sterling silver. 1.75 in (4.4 cm) tall. Not for sale.
This is a slightly adapted version of project #2 in "Silver Threads." I rotated the points to bridge between 2 of the central motifs, instead of having each point attached to one motif, because I wanted the central star shape to be upright as well.
Copper Filigree Star Tree Topper
Copper wire. 3.25 in (7.6 cm). Not for sale.
I made this large version of the (modified) star from the "Silver Threads book, to go on top of my little silver mylar fiberoptic Xmas tree in my studio.
I think you can see why I'm so entranced by the stuff. It's this amazing combination of delicacy and strength, and the number of effects one can get with a pretty small vocabulary of shapes is astonishing. I'm really itching to do some very idiosyncratic stuff in the style...
With these pieces it's all the medium and the designs from the book. I'm definitely entranced by the look, though, and I'm working on some new stuff that's not a copy. :)
