Sigh. Now my bottle of Cuprinol is failing to spray about 70% of the time. I am re-thinking the mouth-driven thingy that can apply a thin coat of whatever that is reportedly used by ceramicists; one of the things holding me back is that I have NO idea what it's called. Any ceramicists reading this that can give me a name, or a better description than that above? I would be most grateful!

I am quite impressed by Cuprinol as a firecoat, and would like to keep using it. I'd also like to use some of the HUGE amount of Pripp's I made up! There's another firecoat I have that I haven't tried yet- Ceramcoat or something? I may try that tomorrow, or the next time I kiln anneal gold.

I used some scrap palladium (it's H&S's 950 alloy, for them what care), rolled it out pretty thin, and will be testing 4 solders on it for color matching. I stamped the strip 1-4, then made wee roundish depressions next to each number for the different solders. I'll be testing (all from H&S) Pd hard, Pd medium, 18k palladium white gold hard, and 20k white gold hard, and we shall see what we shall see about color matching. I'm under a tight deadline for some Pd rings, so I'd best get this done tomorrow, while the rings are annealing before being formed for soldering!

Glad to be of help! I started out with the keywords 'glaze' 'blow' 'applicator', and then 'glaze' 'mouth' 'blow' 'applicator' had more useful results.

Your google-fu totally trumps mine! I tried a buch of things- I don't even know what-all- and got stuff that was, at least, not appropriate for my uses. Probably because of "blow" or something. :)

I am greatly appreciative! I think I'll order severeal, and have one per compound, though I am not precisely looking forward to developing the coordination necessary to use the things... Still, there are only so many spray applicators I can trash before I know I need an alternative.

Thanks again!

cupronil is by far my favorite flux. i've never had a problem with the spray bottle getting blocked up though... pripp's was HORRIBLE when it came to blocking up the sprayer (though i liked it as a flux). but how odd that the cupronil is doing the same thing.

=/

My Cuprinol sprays beautifully and consistently when I spray it into the sink to see if it's working... and then won't spray 2 times out of 3 when I actually have a warm piece I'm trying to fire coat. SO annoying! Perhaps it was a fluke, though- thanks for letting me know that this is not its normal behavior.

I'm researching ways to get the damn Pripp's to spray, since I made up a TON of the stuff, as it turned out. :P
